'ELBOWS UP VAN ISLE'

is a Community of Strength, Resilience, & Unity

It is where Vancouver Island Canadians & allies can connect and support one another,

especially in the face of adversity, tariffs, and threats to democracy and our country's sovereignty.

Whether joining in solidarity in peaceful resistance demonstrations, sharing stories of national

pride and perseverance, other 'Elbows Up' events, ideas, and photos, or discussing the challenges

we face as a community and country, our group is about lifting each other up—not tearing each

other down. It is also about guarding our sovereignty and the values we hold dear:

diversity, equality, and inclusion.

It is also about being kind and encouraging to our American neighbours as most of them

did not vote for the mess we're in. Our fight is not with them but the powers that be.

Join us in fostering a respectful, and resilient community in our friendly Facebook group:

ELBOWS UP VAN ISLE

Stand tall, stand together & let's keep our 'Elbows Up' against fascism, disinformation, and oligarchy!

To find out more about more about the 'Elbows Up' movement, listen to Charlie Angus, a former Ontario MP, who launched this Canada-wide movement. Find him on YouTube at this link:

With love, friendship and optimistic, yet cautious, hope for our future.

"How can I have my Elbows Up?" you may ask? Well, here's your chance.

This is something every Canadian can do.

Please take a few minutes out of your day and watch THIS VIDEO and THIS VIDEO then contact Mark Carney's office, your local MP, and tell your friends to do the same.

And please sign MY PETITION.

Canada has always stood for compassion, fairness, and human rights—not for policies that marginalize refugees, weaken privacy protections, and hand excessive power to authorities. Bill C-2 shifts Canada away from its core values, aligning too closely with aggressive U.S. border policies.

If this bill goes through, it would be an infringement on our rights, our privacy, our freedoms, and an assault on the marginalized in our society. This is NOT what we voted for. We need to ensure we have policies in place that put people first.

Thank you Debra, Erin, David, Stu, and Haidee for showing your Canadian spirit today! Haidee came all the way from the mainland to join us in solidarity and help us create our 'Elbows Up Qualicum Beach' sign!

We will be joining Haidee (and her 'Peace, Love and a Handshake' group) on July 5th for the 'Elbows Up International Day of Action' which will run the length of the longest border in the world. These peaceful rallies are being organized by various American groups to show the world that they stand in solidarity with Canada and want to repair the damage Trump and his administration has caused our relationship. To find out more, go to this LINK for details.

And HERE is the 'Peace, Love and a Handshake' FB group.

Create your own 'Elbows Up' sign wherever you live then share your photos on our group page, Instagram, etc. It helps raise awareness, brings people together, builds friendships, and reminds us all that with everything happening in the US, and the ongoing threats to our sovereignty, we must always stand guard for our "True North strong and free!"
